HOSPITAL INTERACTIVE BOARD

AS I WAS WAITING FOR THE ELEVATOR AT THE HOSPITAL THAT I WORK AT I NOTICED A LARGE INTERACTIVE BOARD HANGING ON THE WALL.  IT HANGS AT EYE LEVEL INVITING PEOPLE TO TAKE A LOOK AND PLAY.

WHEN THE BOARD IS NOT IN DIRECT USE, IT SCROLLS THROUGH GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOSPITAL. THE INFORMATION INCLUDES SURGICAL SPECIALTIES,  PHYSICIAN PROFILES, AND THE NEW HIGH TECH OPERATING ROOMS.

IF SOMEONE IS INTERESTED IN ENGAGING THE BOARD THEY CAN GET INFORMATION ON A NUMBER OF TOPICS REGARDING THE FACILITY.  THE HOSPITAL IS HUGE, SO YOU CAN GET DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GET WHERE YOU NEED TO GO.  IF SOMEONE NEEDS A CARDIOLOGIST YOU CAN SEE WHO IS ON THE STAFF.  THE INFORMATION INCLUDES A PICTURE OF THE PHYSICIAN AND A PROFILE.

THE BOARD ALSO INCLUDES PROFILES ON EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH AND SO FORTH.  THE BOARD IS COLORFUL AND LOOKS LIKE A LARGE SCREEN TV.  IT IS USER FRIENDLY AS WELL.  I DIDN'T THINK TO CHECK AT THE TIME, BUT I WONDER IF IT MIGHT EVEN GIVE INFORMATION IN OTHER MORE COMMON LANGUAGES. THE USER ONLY NEEDS TO TAP THE SCREEN AND THEN FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO OBTAIN THE INFORMATION THEY DESIRE.

THE TARGET AUDIENCE WOULD BE VISITORS AND EMPLOYEES LIKE MYSELF AS WE WAIT FOR THE ELEVATOR.  I MIGHT ADD THAT MAYBE IT ISN'T A COINCIDENT THAT IT IS INFRONT OF THE SLOWEST ELEVATORS IN THE BUILDING!!!

  1. Great post! An interactive display board is a great idea in a hospital. People could use it to help them find different locations and as you mention different doctors, etc. Color probably makes the board more interesting and cheerful since going to a hospital is not usually a pleasant experience, this could help the visitor have an easier time while visiting. Also as you mention, it is located in front of a slow elevator, this could distract people’s attention while they wait, so they don’t get impatient waiting for the elevator, not to mention it will help them locate their destination once they get off the elevator.

  2. A nice post Janice and I like the idea that the interactive sign is strategically placed near the slower elevator - best place for it. It is great that the hospital utilizes such a display board. to inform visitors and employees. From those that I have seen the text lettering presents clearly on those displays.

  3. That seems like a pretty cool board. They has interactive boards for kids in some malls around my area. Its a projection screen onto the floor, and it has little floating balls that you can kick and they move. It is pretty cool; your post reminded me of it. Its cool that they have profiles of the employees and other information about the hospital. Awesome!

  4. This interactive device sounds like a nice addition to the hospital information design plan. Its strategic location probably serves two purposes. The fist is to effectively disseminate pertinent information. It also provides some entertainment to employees and visitors as they wait. Thank you for the post!

  5. This interactive information device is a great addition to the hospital. I'm sure it is very helpful to visitors but I bet it also is a great marketing tool as well. As you had said in your blog when not in use it scrolls through general information about the hospital and its specialties that some visitors may not be aware that they perform. What a great tool to have in a main area where people are going to waiting for the elevator.
